author's purpose
As a kid Anderson was very annoyed with the way companies tried to sell him things. All around us tv shows, ads and movies
are showing us what the high life is like. There’s always that message to people watching the show or movie. “If you just get this,
and buy this, and order that, you’ll be cool, and you’ll be loved. See how much fun these kids are having? If you want to be
wanted, then you need to want what other people want. And other people – what they want is this. Buy it. Buy it now.” (Feed,
page 304)
When Anderson wrote Feed back in 2001, most of the devices like the iphone, blackberry, and android, had ever existed. Not
only this but these days ads and marketing systems are even more sophisticated. This got Anderson thinking, he started to write
a story in which these devices weren’t used with our hands and carried in our pocket , but within us. What if we no longer
needed devices? What if we had the internet within us, so we were never disconnected from society?
